What perks do you offer to employees, beyond a standard benefits package?

Our 4.5/40 compressed work week continues to be a winner, where every Friday is a half-day off. Everyone works diligently, often beyond the normal 8-hour day, so we decided to reward them and recognize the extra effort. The 4.5/40 coupled with no-guilt, flexible start and end times, and flex-time to attend to family or personal matters is a huge plus.

How do you recognize employees for outstanding work?

We are fairly low-key and sensitive to being an all-office team so as not to create unhealthy internal competition. But we recognize outstanding work through merit and spot bonuses, gift cards, time off and often celebrate with a great meal at a popular restaurant in town.

How has the Covid-19 pandemic changed your business?

Thermal scanning, disinfecting, separation, no convening, it’s all different now. Operationally we have had to change, but it has truly brought out the best in us all. Our level of trust, accountability, initiative and personal sacrifices are through the roof. Everyone has pulled together to ensure continued success as a business. For this we are grateful. What has changed, is the uncertainty in our state’s economy and the longer-term impacts which affect us all.

What additional resources have you offered employees during the pandemic?

From March to June we had our staff primarily work from home. To accomplish this, everyone took their computer workstations with them. Things went so well that in July, we decided to implement a permanent hybrid WFH schedule and made the investment of outfitting everyone with laptops and large monitors for home use. In August, we provided a $100 stipend to purchase any further supplies to make work from home more efficient and comfortable. Dare we admit that we are more productive now than ever.
